Aluminium Cans
Central Florida:
ECO-Action has an ongoing program in Central Florida which accepts donations of collected alumimum cans for recycling to help take care of ECO-Action administrative costs.
To make arrangements to drop off donated aluminum cans to ECO-Action, contact our Headquarters.
In the world beyond:
If you've collected aluminum cans, and you're not in Central Florida, you can follow this link to another group collecting aluminum cans.
If your considering collecting alumimum cans as a fundraiser for your school or church group, start by contacting scrapyards for rates. You'll need to consider commitment: volunteers to collect and crush; and infrastructure: storage, insect problems, collection and transportation needs.
Hospital Can Crush Program
Our own Dr. Bob Stonerock used to do "rounds" in area hospitals. He slowly got all of the floor nurses collecting patients and their aluminum cans to donate to our Can Crush Program. Dr. Bob would collect these cans from all the nurses of all the hospitals where he had patients.
Weekly, volunteers would meet Dr. Bob at his medical office, and crush and crush and crush cans. Keith Hagy took the role of coordinator, getting volunteers, week after week, to crush and crush and crush. When Keith was no longer able to coordinate, Greg Dorf pitched right in to crush and crush and crush.
Dr. Bob has since retired, so the floor nurses are now off the hook. But hopefully they are all more aware of how much aluminum goes through the hospital.
Please feel to contact us if you would like to know more about our Can Crush Program.
