History

In 1993, ECO-Action was formed, an environmental education nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering the mission of facilitating positive lifestyle change through consumer education and community involvement in environmental issues.

As an all-volunteer, membership organization, within its first two years ECO-Action has attempted to meet the needs of other environmental organizations and the community in the following ways:

  • Establish and maintain free public environmental library
  • Produce Earth Day events
  • Over 150 presentations to environmental organizations, civic groups, and schools
  • 14 weekly 10-Step Workshops
  • Development of educational platform
  • Produce an educational newsletter
  • Earth Day Birthday Art Contest
  • Tabling at 139 events
  • 29 workshops at area schools
  • 17 highway cleanups
  • 15 tree plantings
  • 7 tree giveaways
  • Support and participate in numerous community events, such as river cleanups, environmental fairs, and teach-ins
  • Respond whenever possible to needs or special requests of the public and other nonprofit organizations

Although a great deal has been accomplished for such a young organization, ECO-Action will continue to work hard to fulfill a variety of goals, including:

  • Continued development of educational materials (especially lesson plans for elementary / middle school)
  • Monthly programs
  • Newsletter, produced 4 times a year.
  • Consumer education
  • School workshops
  • Tree plantings
  • Canoe cleanups
  • Adopt-A-Road
  • Earth Day Celebrations
